Abbie Smith at ERV is my go-to person for all things virus related. Every time there’s a headline involving the words “cure” or “HIV,” I wait for a blog post to see if it’s hype or hope.

This time, it’s hope! A video has been circulating about a girl who had leukemia and barely any hope of surviving. It was the second time the disease had come back. She qualified to receive an injection of a modified version of the HIV virus, which attacked her tumors and saved her life.

Abbie Smith reports that it’s all true. While results aren’t typical and this kind of treatment is in it’s infancy as we continue to understand cancer and viruses, this is absolutely awesome news. Go visit Abbie’s blog, watch the video and just try to turnoff the waterworks.

Yay science!
